Environmental
Record of Performance
Over the past 30 years, the oil and natural gas
industry's record of environmental performance shows
giant efforts made in all sectors and results that make
visible differences in the quality of the environment.
Industry professionals recognize that quality of life
means more than just heat for the home and enough
gasoline to get to the store. It also means
protecting and improving the human and natural
environment, while producing the life-enhancing products
that we all need in our daily lives. In the year 2000
alone, the environmental
investment by the U.S. oil and natural gas industry
amounted to .8 billion or 10 percent of the net income
of the top 200 oil and natural gas companies. One
of the results of this investment is that as the demand
for oil and natural gas grows higher, pollution levels are decreasing. This is a measure of the industry strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental improvements.
